About the Artist

Aileen Barr studied Ceramic Design at the National College of Art and Design In Dublin, Ireland, graduating in 1985. She worked in New York for a number of years and it was here that she discovered her fascination with handmade tile. Working in tile and architectural ceramics allows for the creation of larger works of art and can open up endless possibilities.

On returning to Ireland Aileen, in collaboration with two other artists, set up Artlink, a community based visual arts group, where she helped to develop visual arts programs for schools and community groups. She also led a number of Public Art Projects with input from local communities, which were funded by the Arts Council of Ireland and the Percent for Art Scheme, creating tile installations in parks, libraries and in urban settings.
Aileen Barr relocated to San Francisco from Ireland in 2002 and has continued to work in the area of Public Art. She has been commissioned by the San Francisco Arts Commission and has worked with communities to create exciting outdoor tile installations. Her work is suitable for indoor and outdoor settings and is durable in all weathers.
